# TLS Certificates for MTA Reverse Proxy

Below are commands to replace the TLS certificates for reverse proxy on the MTA.

  **Creating a certificate**

  If you don’t have a certificate yet, create one by following your internal documentation or guides from [Switch](https://help.switch.ch/pki/manage/request/howto/) or [DigiCert](https://www.digicert.com/kb/ssl-support/openssl-quick-reference-guide.htm). You can also refer to [OpenSSL documentation](https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/man1/openssl-req.html). The rest of the guide assumes you have the right files resulting from that already.

1. Obtain your signed certificate by your usual means and place the `<private_key>.key` and `<certificate>.crt` files to `/etc/xorlab/tls`, then execute:

   ```shell theme={null}
   # Place key and cert with proper permission
   cd /etc/xorlab/tls
   sudo cp <private_key>.key rproxy.key
   sudo cp <certificate>.crt rproxy.crt
   sudo chmod 400 rproxy.key
   sudo chmod 644 rproxy.crt
   sudo chown 2050:2050 rproxy.key
   sudo chown 2050:2050 rproxy.crt

   # Apply changes
   cd /etc/xorlab/rproxy_mta/
   docker exec rproxy_rproxy nginx -s reload
   ```

2. Verify the certificate using `openssl c_client`:

   ```shell theme={null}
   openssl s_client -showcerts -servername <mta_server_name> -connect <mta_server_name>:8443 </dev/null
   ```
