Data Retention Overview

The default settings are sufficient for most environments. The table below shows what you can configure if needed.

Change Metadata Retention	How long emails are searchable and visible in the web interface.	90 days
Change Quarantine Retention	How long malicious emails are kept in the quarantine.	30 days
Change Storing of Subject	If and when email subjects are stored.	Always stored
Change Storing of Previews	If and when email and attachment previews are stored.	Stored only for malicious emails
Change Log and Metric Retention (on-prem only)	How long to keep operational logs and monitoring metrics. Applicable only for on-premises setups.	30 days

Multi-Tenancy

Everything except log and metric retention can be set per tenant:

Type	In a multi-tenant deployment
Change Metadata Retention	Per tenant in `shared/guarded_tenants.yml`.
Change Quarantine Retention	Per tenant in `shared/guarded_tenants.yml`.
Change Storing of Subject	Per tenant in `shared/guarded_tenants.yml`.
Change Storing of Previews	Configured in `local.properties`, which applies to all tenants. To change it for one tenant only, use a `tenant.properties` file instead, see Manage Tenant Rules.
Change Log and Metric Retention (on-prem only)	Instance-wide only. Cannot be configured per tenant.
